    AND
    NATIONAL WATER AWARD (RASTRIYA JAL PURASKAR)-2010

    The Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India announces the Ground Water Augmentation Awards & National Water Award for Innovative Practices of Ground Water Augmentation through Rainwater Harvesting and Artificial Recharge to Ground Water/Promoting Water Use Efficiency/Recycling & Re-use of Water/Awareness creation.

    The awards are open to all registered NGO, Gram Panchayats and Local Bodies Institutions/Corporate Sector and Individuals, who have achieved excellence in the field of ground water management by adopting measures of rainwater harvesting and artificial recharge to ground water/ in promoting water use efficiency/recycling & reuse of waste water/awareness creation.

    Eligibility Criteria;

    The NGOs/Gram Panchayats/ Urban Local Bodies/Industries/Individuals/Institutions should have atleast two years of field experience in ground water recharge, water use efficiency or re-use of water and in awareness creation for the same. The Institutes implementing Farmer’s Participatory Action Research Programme should have atleast one crop season field experience in demonstrating the technologies leading to soil and water conservation measures and water use efficiency.

    The proposal to be considered for the award should meet the following criteria:


    • Area of operation of the person, NGO, Industry, Institution etc. should be largely related to ground water or water use efficiency.



    • The works of artificial recharge of ground water, water use efficiency, recycling & re-use of waste water and awareness creation executed must bring out both tangible and intangible outcomes such as increasing ground water level, improvement in water quality , increase in yield and number of people for which awareness created.



    • Recharge structures, water use efficiency initiatives, recycling & re-use of water should have been designed based on sound scientific considerations for their operation at optimal efficiency.



    • Successful implementation of the practice and its replicability.


    • Community participation and awareness including women’s participation should be an essential element of the activity.


    Composition & Citation of the Ground Water Award and National Water Award

    For the purpose of Ground Water Augmentation Award for NGOs, Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies, the country shall be divided in six zones namely Northern, Eastern, Southern, Western, Central and North Eastern. The details of the States / UT included in different zones are indicated in the Guidelines and for others; the entire country shall be the area of selection. The Ground Water Augmentation Award shall consist of a cash award of Rs 1 lakh each and a plaque with citation. There will be 21 Awards in total. One each shall be given for the three different categories. i.e. NGO, Gram Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies in each zone and one award each for Institution/industries/Individual in the entire country. The National Water Award shall consist of a cash award of Rs 10 lakhs and plaque with citation. The award will be given for best innovative practices of water conservation, re-cycling & re-use, water use efficiency, ground water augmentation through rainwater harvesting and artificial recharge from amongst 21 award winners of Ground Water Augmentation.

The application will have to be submitted to the concern State Government / UT administration for initial screening.

    Last date for submission of application to the concern nodal department of the State Government is 31st August , 2011.
